Support Groups
Adoption can add unique and challenging dynamics to a family. Often it is another adoptive parent who can relate to these dynamics and provide the support and understanding needed to sustain family members. As one adoptive parent said, “We speak the same language.”

Support groups can help parents by lending a listening ear, identifying adoption-sensitive resources, or helping to advocate in the schools for children with special needs. Many families find resources for respite care through the connections they make in support
groups.
