Often changes in behavior or attitudes happen as a result of the caregiver’s changes. When we see improvements in the child’s ability to function it is not because there has been any change in the organic brain damage caused by prenatal exposure. Instead, the change is in the way the parent or caregiver looks at the child’s behavior, from won’t to can’t, and helping to support rather than punish.
